READING CHAMPIONS GO FOR BRONZE! |
 |
Reading Champions is a national scheme organised through the
National Literacy Trust to encourage male readers. This year a
group of Year 6 boys have met fortnightly for breakfast the
discuss what they could do to inspire other boys at our school
to get excited about reading. Three boys have now worked through
an entire project to promote reading in our school, and have now
received their Bronze Award. Joshua, Sebastian and Cameron began
by surveying boys to see what books they like to read. They then
organised badge making at the book fair, and our librarian gave
them the profit from this event to purchase books that boys
would like based on the surveys they had done. They have
labelled these books and set up a shelf in the library solely
for boys books. To encourage children to read them, Josh,
Cameron and Sebastian and other Reading Champions then read
exciting extracts from chosen books to various classes in
school. Congratulations to them! The Reading Champions have also
made excellent progress towards their target of reading 100
books between them for the Premier League Reading Stars
Challenge.
Keep your eyes open this term for more exciting projects that
our Reading Champions are already planning, and that you could
be involved in too!
