Day 1

English

Last week, we thought about the features of a setting description which would fit the science fiction genre.

You have used DASH? to write a paragraph describing a science fiction image, used ambitious adjectives and short sentences to describe action and speech.

Task 1

Draw an imaginary planet which will be the setting for your story.

Task 2

Annotate (label) the image with ambitious adjectives, short sentences,  verbs and speech that the character might say.

By the end of the two tasks, you will have a detailed image of your setting with keywords and phrases which will be used in your story.

Maths

Task 1

Complete the 'ultimate times table challenge' worksheet below. Record your time!

(The answer sheet is provided for you to check your answers once you have finished).

Task 2

Complete the 'missing angles on a straight line' worksheet below.

Start with either the sheet with one star or two stars. To challenge yourself move on to the next sheet.

By the end of the two tasks, you will have completed a timed times table challenge and two missing angles worksheets.

Topic

Following on from the work we have been doing in D&T, design an exploration vehicle. It could be used on your new planet or to explore a part of space we already know about. Think carefully about your user and the design criteria.

  • It needs to be able to cope with the terrain (landscape).
  • It needs to be able to communicate with Earth.
  • It has to have space for necessary equipment.

If want to go further, then you can try making a model from materials you have at home. If you wanted to try making it move, then you could watch this video to get some inspiration. How far can you make it go?
