English

This week, we are going to use the Oak National Academy resources and videos online to look at writing a non chronological report.

Today, you will be looking at an example text and looking at defining key words. Click here to access the video and lesson information.

There will also be some new spellings to learn this week looking at ‘i before e, except after c’. These words all include –ei as they come after a c.

Maths

We are going to continue to follow the activities provided by White Rose. Remember, you need to watch the video on their website and download the resources from the links below. Today, you need to complete Summer Term Week 6 Lesson 4 (Using fractions as operators). This is finishing off the lessons from last week, so take care you have chosen the right day!

Watch the video by clicking here to visit the Year 5 area of their website. and then answer the questions by clicking here to download the worksheet. Don’t worry if you can’t print it, just write the answers in your home learning book.

You can check your answers here.

You can also have a look at the resources on the BBC Bitesize website here. They link with the White Rose activity each day.

Topic

Over this week, we are going to be thinking about countries and cities around the world: the cultures and traditions, famous landmarks, food and clothing.

Today, we are going to start with the flags of the world.

Why not see what you know already? Try one (or more!) of these quizzes.

Flags are a national symbol for all countries. Cultures use different symbols and colours on their flags which are meaningful to them and represent their history and people.

You need to pick 5 countries and investigate their flags.

  • What symbols and colours have they used?
  • Why are these significant to this country?

To go further, can you create a flag for the UK which you feel represents our culture, history and people?
